Description: 1 GAL Light ROOT BEER AMBER Glass DEMIJOHN Crude Pebbly SURFACE Texture BEAUTIFUL Looks like an earlier 1870s era piece to me, hand blown with a drippy gloppy applied tooled top and a single dot in the middle of the base. Also, when you rub your finger across the base, it has a gritty sandpaper like feel in places like a sand chip pontil. No embossing on this one but a beautiful shape, color, and form. Guess it could be Stoddard or some other New England glass house, as it came from out East during a trip several years ago. Note: this is the demijohn shown on the middle in the last group shot photo of three, the other 2 are just for comparison. This demijohn measures about 15 inches tall, 6 inches across the base, maybe just a little larger around the shoulder area. Beautiful rich light root beer amber color, has a great looking orange peel and whittled texture to the glass and full of tiny champagne bubbles. I'm calling it a 1 gallon or so size. Condition is excellent for a large bulky piece of utilitarian day to day usage glass - has no chips, cracks, stress lines, or scratches that I see, pretty clean too with only some cleanable dirt in the shoulder area does not look permanent. These large size demijohn bottles were mainly used for storing liquids such as wine, whiskey, vinegar, water, etc. Amazing to find one that has survived all these years in such nice of condition - you will be pleased. Please see all photos provided for more details on condition and as always feel free to contact if you have any questions. Thanks for looking.
