Description: Antique picture frame for an oval 8" x 10 picture or photograph. Victorian era American ; circa 1860s. Solid mahogany wood. Four sections of carved wood, smoothly joined together by a skilled frame-maker in the mid 1800s. Concave and convex surfaces. The inner section is gilt ( gold ) composition material, and is removable. Later cardboard backing. No glass. This frame was made in the 1860 - 1870 period, and is over 150 years old. It has some surface wear and signs of age, some dings and scuffs, but is otherwise in good condition. ( see the photos ) Frame outer dimensions: 10 5/8" x 12 5/8" Overall depth: 1 1/2" Rabbet : 8 " x 10" ( oval ) ( the dimensions of the picture which will fit ) Sight : about 7" x 9" ( this is the viewing area, as seen from the front of the frame ) A survivor of Old New England, made 150+ years ago. Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer.
