Description: Two circa 1880's or so cabinet photos showing handsome young men in military uniforms. On one cabinet photo the soldier is holding his kepi & has three stripes on each sleeve. That one is ink signed in period on the back: "John Phelps". The photographer's marking is on the back & also partly on the front border: "R. H. Furman Artist 80 & 82 State St. Rochester". This is from Rochester, N.Y. This example has damage to the back of the matt from having been glued in to an album. The top edge has some trim & a surface scuff at the top right corner. There is one pinhole on the left side of the background. The size is 6 1/4 inches by 4 3/16 inches. The other cabinet photo shows a young man in military uniform in an oval portrait. The back is signed in period in pencil. We cannot read the first name. But, the last name is clearly "Harriman". This is one photo out of a small group of photos that came from the Harriman family of New York City, New York. The back has the printed photographer's logo of: "Wm. Klauser, 466, Sixth Avenue near 28th Street, New-York." This is from New York City, N. Y. This example has irregular trim at the top border. The size is 6 1/8 inches by 4 3/16 inches.
