Description: A nice example of a tall clock with a fruitwood case, its bonnet featuring a fretwork carved crest and three urn form finials, surmounting a tombstone shaped glass door, opening to a handpainted 11” dial with Roman numerals, an urn decoration above the dial, and colorful spandrels, flanked by turned full corner columns. This weight driven clock has wooden works, and a tombstone shaped waist door, opening to two weights, and a metal pendulum bob. The clock dates to the late 18th or early 19th century, and is in very good condition, with some imperfections, minor losses, and wear commensurate with age and use. A graphite inscription appears on the interior door September 8, 1834, with an illegible name below it. The works will run for short periods of time, but do need some attention to get them running on a consistent basis. The original case finish was probably grain painted.
