Among the late teens orchestras used by Parlophon for the Violin centered entertainment repertoire were the Michailow Orchestra, Marek Weber and of course Edith Lorand. Very Little is known about German-Russian Michail Michailow pere. His son Max Michailov was a violin Soloist in German orchestras. His orchestra had a short vogue in the early 1920s, but did not make it into the electric era. Perhaps it for the reason that he founded in 1923 as Concert Master the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. Michailow Violin with his Orchestra in motifs from Tosca. Recorded in the year of his early deathThe discography names him Max Michailow, but the son was 12 yo in 1923!master 2-6241 D30 ANGER: Berlin, Carl Lindström AG, SO.33, Schlesische Straße 261923.02.27 TueTOSCA (Giacomo Puccini / Giuseppe Giacosa, Luigi Illica) [arr.:] Selection (part 1)Max Michailow (MD). — Max Michailow (orchestra).Parlophon (Germany) P 1469-I D30 ANParlophone (UK) E 10021 D30 ANmaster 2-6242 D30 ANGER: Berlin, Carl Lindström AG, SO.33, Schlesische Straße 261923.02.27 TueTOSCA (Giacomo Puccini / Giuseppe Giacosa, Luigi Illica) [arr.:] Selection (part 2)Max Michailow (MD). — Max Michailow (orchestra).Parlophon (Germany) P 1469-II D30 ANParlophone (UK) E 10021Great German Parlophon issued on US Laminated Odeon 12" 78 rpm record Condition:VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS/ EXCELLENT MINUS some rubs, longer rim bite touches first groove, does not affect play, I. has a noisy start first 5mm then EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET = VG++, II. plays E EXCEPTIONALLY quiet Great SoundMichail Michailow (* September 14, 1888 in Chernobyl; † December 23, 1923) actually: Finkelstein, was a Russian-Jewish violinist and conductor.[1]Mikhail Mikhailov was born as a child of a kulak in Chernobyl, Ukraine, his birth name was Finkelstein. His musical talent was discovered early. He received his first violin lessons from the concert master (J. Schura?) Polischuk[2] from Kyiv, whose daughter he married in 1906. From 1908 he went to Berlin and from September 1911 studied at the Stern Conservatory with Alexander Fudemann. In addition to his studies, he worked as a violinist to earn his living. He put together his own ensemble and had long-term engagements at the Admirals-Café and the Princess-Café[3] in Berlin. Here Finkelstein adopted the stage name Michail Michailow, possibly because the Jewish-sounding name Finkelstein would have stood in the way of a successful career.Nevertheless, the name M. Finkelstein can still be found on the unbranded label (similar to that with the no. 125.103: Nocturno by Chopin, see illustrations) of a 30 cm record, on one side of which the Meditation from Thais by Jules Massenet (Matr. no 5170), on which the other is recorded the Serenade by (Gabriel) Pierné (Matr. No. 5168), played as a violin solo by M. Finkelstein. The piano accompanist remains anonymous. The plate comes from the former Paul Sauerlaender collection and is currently kept in the German Film Museum in Frankfurt/Main.With his band he made the first recordings for the Lindstrom brand Parlophon around 1912. He played his own compositions, but also classical ones such as Michail Glinka's Der Zweifel, in a trio with Armin Liebermann on the cello and Friedrich Schmidt-Marlissa on the piano, Fritz Kreisler's Wiener Melodie or Edvard Grieg's Norwegian Dance No.2.[4]On May 11, 1912 his son Mordechai[5] was born, who later also became a violinist. On January 22, 1913, a benefit concert was held in the Admirals-Café “for the popular conductor and Russian violin king Mikhailov with a strengthened orchestra, with the kind participation of conductor Julius Einödshofer”[6]. On July 1, 1914, Finkelstein completed his studies in Berlin. "Because of his delayed performance as a violin player"[7] he was awarded the Gustav Hollaender Medal as a farewell. When World War I broke out, Finkelstein fled to neutral Sweden along with other Ukrainian musicians. Here he was able to continue his career as a violin soloist undisturbed. At concerts in Stockholm he was u. a. accompanied by Nathaniel Broman and Kerstin Sondbaum-Strömberg on the piano. After the end of the war he returned to Berlin. In an event of the Russian Club Berlin on September 29, 1919, he played in the Kaisersaal of the Weinhaus Rheingold in the performance of Artur Rubinstein's Romance; Other soloists were Lidija Potozkaja and Giorgij Kjakscht (1873–1936), ballet masters of the former Kaiserl. theatre.[7] While he continued to cultivate the classical repertoire on the Parlophon label, he also made recordings for Grammophon and its subsidiary brands Polyphon and Reneyphon as a dance orchestra, director M. Michailow, mostly with concert pieces such as the popular Toselli Serenade or the popular Russian Romance Have pity on me/Pozalej by NR Bakalainikov, but also with ragtime-influenced[8] dance music, e.g. B. with Kitty[9] (on Gr 13 674), with Hitchy-Koo, or the One-step Waitin' for the Robert E. Lee, (all c. 1920).Mikhailov died of tuberculosis on December 23, 1923, at the age of just 35. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise.
