Description: LYSOL: Created by Gustav Raupenstrauch in 1889 to help end a cholera epidemic in Germany. In the early history of the product Lysol was not only promoted as a cleaning product but also as a contraceptive, a feminine hygiene product (douche), and as an abortion aid. As a result hundreds of people died from Lysol exposure, including women that used it for birth control. About 1930, Lysol Bottle, Amber (brown) in color, 4 inches tall and 1 7/8 inches in diameter at the base, stopper top opening is about 7/8 inch. Embossed 4 times around the shoulder "Lysol" in cursive script. Based embossed in the center with the 'diamond O' (Owens-Illinois Glass Co. logo) with a 4 beneath, lettering around the logo in two circles, BOTTLE MADE / IN U.S.A., on the inner circle and LYSOL INCORPORATED / BLOONFIELD N.J. on the outer circle. About the date: Owens-Illinois Glass Co. was incorporated in 1929 and used several variations of the 'diamond O' logo. I have found the earlier marks used a larger 'O' in the logo than the later marks. That and the fact the bottle is a stopper top leads me to believe this bottle dates from 1929 to the very early 1930s. A nice little bottle, a couple of tiny lip chips and a couple of small scuffs (as shown in the photos). I have a separate listing for a larger Lysol bottle.
