The first new obverse had to be quickly replaced as is gave a poor die life, the problem was the flat fields with small beads wore very quickly. A short trial of medium beads was put in order which showed that a field sloping up at the edge worked much better (larger beads), so the new dies were made with large beads. In addition to these obverse varieties, there are also 2 different varieties of reverses, a pointed 5 and a blunt 5 - this making 5 different major varieties of the 1965 Canadian Silver Dollar.
