Description: Up for sale, a 1976 Guild D-50 "Bluegrass Special" dreadnought in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This premier Guild flattop was introduced in 1963, and the D-50 model has a broad appeal for open tunings, fingerpicking, DADGAD, and a variety of other applications. It features a solid Sitka spruce top, bookmatched Indian rosewood back and sides, and a solid mahogany neck capped by a slab ebony fretboard. Tonally, this Guild offers tons of projection and power with a woody, percussive cut. The bass register is rich and resonant, with exquisite clarity and a high volume ceiling, while the trebles have a present, round quality with a sparkling snap. As big and bold-sounding as it was designed to be, this Guild weighs 5lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action. The one-piece mahogany neck has a substantial C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders, measuring .870” deep at the 1st fret and 1.010” at the 9th. The slab ebony fretboard features dot inlay and the stock slender fretwire has good meat and crown, showing virtually no wear. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The hand-carved bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports the Guild chesterfield pearloid inlay, and the stock Guild-embossed Schaller tuners turn smoothly and provide excellent tuning stability. On the body, the ebony bridge sits flush with the spruce top on all edges, and the saddle has good height for future adjustment, with action currently sitting at 7/64" on the bass side and 5/64" on the treble side, measured at the 12th fret. Visible through the soundhole, the original Guild label is intact, noting production at Guild's Westerly, RI factory, with a handwritten serial number that matches the number imprinted on the back of the headstock. The gloss nitro lacquer finish has notably ambered on the top, and there is just one short professionally addressed split at the bass-side waist on the back. Cosmetic wear is otherwise limited to just a few small dings and faint finish scuffs on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, free of palm wear with only a few tiny marks on the profile length. The original black tolex hardshell case with blue plush interior and raised Guild badge is included.
