Born in 1592 inthe Highlands of Scotland, and he is still alive. He is immortal. For fourhundred years, he's been a warrior... a lover... a wanderer, constantly facingother Immortals in combat to the death. The winner takes his enemy's head, andwith it, his power. I am a Watcher, part of a secret society of men and womenwho observe and record, but never interfere. We know the truth about Immortals. In the end, there can be only one. May it be Duncan MacLeod, the Highlander. This was the narration for the Highlander: The Series that drew millions totheir televisions each week to watch their favorite immortal hero battle evil.Highlander: The Series originated in Europe. Christopher Lambert, who starredin the first four Highlander movies, had previously worked with French leadingentertainment conglomerate Gaumont's president Christian Charret. Lambert knewthat Highlander producers Peter Davis and Bill Panzer wanted to make aHighlander series and connected them with Charret. Gaumont bought the rights tothe series. Highlander was one of the first projects developed by Gaumont'stelevision branch opened in 1992 and one of its financial backers was theFrench bank Credit du Nord. The French leading production company GaumontTelevision bought the rights to the series to have it produced in syndicationin America with a local crew, a ground-breaking move at the time.Highlander marked the first time a French production company was creativelyinvolved in a show intended for the American market. The show was co-producedin syndication by international partners including Gaumont, RTL Plus (Germany),Rysher Distribution (United States), Reteitalia Productions (Italy), AmuseVideo (Japan) and TF1 (France). The executive producers were Bill Panzer, PeterS. Davis, Gaumont Television president Christian Charret and Gaumontco-production chief Marla Ginsburg. Steven Maier, Sheryl Hardy and Guy Collinswere co-executive producers. Kevin Droney and Philip John Taylor were supervisingproducers at the beginning of the season; from the seventh episode onwards,David Abramowitz became supervising producer instead of Taylor. The producers were Barry Rosen and Gary Goodman. Executives in charge ofproduction were Marc du Pontavice and Denis Leroy. Scripts were contributed byboth staff and freelance writers, Brian Clemens among the latter. Brent-CarlClackson was line producer on the Vancouver segment, from episode one to thirteen. When production moved to Paris,Clackson was succeeded by Patrick Millet (with the title of production manager)for episodes fourteen to twenty-two. The regular directors were Thomas J.Wright, Jorge Montesi and Ray Austin. The fencing coach was Bob Anderson, whocoined for himself the title of Master of Swords. Anderson choreographedthe fights on the Vancouver segment then was succeeded by PeterDiamond, credited as second unit director and stunt coordinator on the Paris segment. At the beginning of Season 3, F. Braun McAsh became the Swordmaster andchoreographed the remaining four seasons and the 4th movie, Endgame. Theopening theme was "Princes of the Universe" from the 1986 album AKind of Magic by Queen; incidental music was composed by Roger Bellon. The pilotepisode was originally intended to be a third Highlander Movie (To act as a TVmovie), but the low budget and Lambert agreeing to reprise his role as Connor Macleod late into production causedthe pilot to be written as a 1 hour pilot.Christopher Lambert did not wish todo television, though he agreed that there should be a series, and originallyConnor MacLeod was to be the protagonist. After Lambert declined, and becausethere were still films being made with the Connor character, it was decided atAdrian Paul's request to have the series focus on another MacLeod. Lambertagreed to appear in the pilot and pass the torch. They were only able to affordhim for three days of filming and Christopher Lambert declined to doany future episodes.Alastair Duncan, Anthony De Longis,Alexis Denisof, Geraint Wyn Davies, Gary Daniels, and James Horan were all inthe running for the lead role. Marc Singer who was originally offered the roleof Connor MacLeod in the original movie was also a front runner for the leadbefore Adrian Paul was cast. Dutch actor Derek de Lint was eventually cast asConner Macleod. But for unknown reasons he left the project before productionbegan. Adrian Paul beat out 400 hopefuls from the U.S, Canada and Europe for the lead role. Originally, the actor was a tough sell to the investors because he was an unknown (thoughhe played Russian ballet dancer Kolya in The Colbys), however the producersfelt that he would appeal to both men and women fans of the franchise. Paulreminded them of a young Sean Connery. Adrian said in an interview that he was drawn to the seriesbecause it had so many layers: history, romance, adventure, spirituality.Ron Perlman and John Rhys Davieswere considered for the role of Methos. Perlman guest starred in the fifthseason episode "The Messenger," playing an Immortal pretending to beMethos, played by Peter Wingfield. The series continued in Highlander: Endgame(2000) and Highlander: The Source (2007). The films feature Adrian Paul asDuncan MacLeod, Peter Wingfield as Methos and Jim Byrnes as Joe Dawson.Rare - This 5-coin and original government packagingset is of extreme unbelievable rarity due to its limited low worldwidemintage of just 10,000 coins and its super high popularity due to thesubject matter being Highlander: The Series - 5th Anniversary.Additionally this five coin and packaging set being struck in the highestpossible quality with the super rare Proof Finish andwith a Two Ounce Design for each coin in this set - a totalof 10 Troy Ounces - in the Original Government Packaging witha stunning Large Book Design with mega rare SevenSignatures by Peter Davis and William Panzer - all together makesthis five coin and packaging set of ULTIMATE SUPER RARITY !!!
