Description: 6 Vintage Fostoria MOTHER OF PEARL Optic Iridescent Tall Champagne Coupe Glasses If you love vintage glass, this is some of the prettiest to have at the table! This is a gorgeous set of rainbow iridescent champagne coupes by Fostoria, produced circa 1920. They have a clear, bright iridescence and a lovely optic ripple to the glass, which gives them a shimmering quality. Just the thing to make a special occasion table glow! They would make beautiful dessert cups, as well. These are also manganese glass, which helps date them! Manganese was used in pre-WWI glass recipes for the brightness and clarity it imparts to clear glass, but when war broke out the manganese was diverted to war use and selenium substituted. So manganese glass is most often found pre-1918, though scrap manganese glass was used by manufacturers in later years. Manganese glass glows under 365nm black light but it is not radioactive and is considered completely safe to use. That these glasses contain manganese indicates they were probably early in the pattern run, and are quite possibly a century old! Excellent antique/vintage condition, no chips or cracks, may have slight marks of previous use. Some small bubbles and bumps commensurate with blown glass manufacturing of the time, nothing of note. Iridescence is bright and even, not patchy. Remarkable condition for the age; they've been carefully kept. Clean, hand washed and ready to use or display.
