Description: Antique Amethyst 14K Yellow Gold Cannetille Brooch Pin Oval Cut Estate A wonderfully intricate little amethyst brooch in 14k yellow gold. Features an oval-faceted amethyst, bezel-set and encircled by the most delicate 3-dimensional 14K gold cannetille work. Cannetille gold work was very popular in the 1820's and 1830's during the Georgian period, however the clasp style here (the clasp appears original to the piece) suggests this brooch was created in the late 1800's or early 1900's, in the Victorian or Edwardian periods. The pin's clasp secures with a snap. It's stamped with a 14k hallmark on hood of clasp; below this is a partial maker's hallmark which we are unable to decipher. Acid testing confirms the brooch is 14k gold. It's a glorious little piece, so well-made and truly beautiful.
