Description: Item DetailsAntique French Bronze Clock, Circa 1855 Offers Welcome A very large and fine French antique Victorian bronze mantel clock dating to circa 1855. The clock demonstrates the finest quality of craftsmanship and is completed in the Rococo style and features scroll work throughout. To the front elevation, this large sized clock case houses a white enamel dial with black hand painted Roman numerals alongside an outer chapter indicating minute marks within an ormolu beaded rim. The clock case is surmounted by a finely chiselled bronze figure of a smartly dressed gentleman. This fine clock drum is set within a base decorated with repousse work and scroll work; the whole raised on scroll feet. The clock features an 8 day twin train silk suspended mechanical movement striking the hours and half on a bell and is regulated by a countwheel. The mechanism is stamped twice by two of the most important, renowned and awarded clock manufacturers, Japy Freres, having been awarded a medal of honour for that particular mechanism in 1855 and Henry Marc. The piece comes complete with pendulum, winding key and bell. Approximate dimensions: 36 cm high x 34 cm wide Approximate weight: 3117 Grams Overall, the clock is in very good condition. The clock has a clean movement and has recently been serviced. Please note, whilst the clock currently works, during transport, all clocks are moved around a lot, and therefore, they may require setting up upon receiving them as well as the possibility of requiring professional assistance or a service as they can get 'stuck'. There is no guarantee that the clock will work smoothly after it has been transported. Please ask any questions you may have.
