Description: Antique Northwood Carnival Glass Ribs Diamonds Purple Amethyst Hat Vase Votive Candle Holder The Northwood Glass Company was established by Harry Northwood, an Englishman who had previously worked with his father in the glass business. He set up his own company in the United States, founding Northwood Glass in Indiana, Pennsylvania, in 1896. Around 1908-1909, Northwood began producing carnival glass, which is iridescent glassware that was often given away as prizes at carnivals, hence the name. This type of glass was designed to compete with more expensive iridescent glass like that made by Steuben Glass Works. Northwood's carnival glass is notable for its quality and design. The company ceased operations in 1925.
