Description: Antique Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria Cup & Saucer-Bowl, 1904-10, Isolde Art Deco Line, Germany Artist/Studio: Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria, Isolde Line Origin: Germany Year: Antique, 1904-1910, per online research Signed: The green mark on the bottom of the bowl reads, "Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria." The cup has the same mark, but with "Isolde" added at the bottom. Pattern: "Isolde." Art Deco panels with floral designs. This Isolde line began early on as completely white and later, underglazes and patterns were added, per online research. Color: Bright white bodies; satiny, pale gold and matte panels alternate with bright white glossy panels that have a multicolor flower and leaf design inside; gold-gilt accent bands, panel outlines, and cup handle; any yellow tones are from the camera Material: Slightly transparent porcelain pottery Surface: Smooth and glossy inside and out; shiny metallic gold-gilt trim; unglazed foot rim on the bowl Technique: Factory produced, possibly hand painted Features: Slightly transparent bodies when held to the light (see last photo); the saucer is more like a bowl with its recessed center; possibly hand painted designs; satiny pale gold matte panels; gold-gilt trim; angular cup handle; small foot on each piece; mfg marked Condition: Very good, pre-owned, antique condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing and little to no surface or gold wear to note. There is a small mark on the bottom of the bowl's unglazed foot rim. It doesn't detract, but the outside rim of the cup has a slight indentation (please see photos #1) where it appears to be thinner than the rest of the rim. This could be from the manufacturing process or from use. Any other irregularities in glaze, shape or color, any fleabites, etc. would be from the manufacturing process and not damage of any kind. Vintage, pre-owned items will not usually be in mint condition, but may show signs of age, use, or wear from being pre-owned and loved for many years. The cup measures 4 1/4" wide including the handle, has a 3" diameter opening and a 2 1/2" diameter base. The bowl is 5" in diameter, stands about 1" high, and has a base diameter of 2 3/4".
