Description: Antique WH Grindley & Co Covered Oval TUREEN Flow Blue Aldine Pattern 100% Authentic WH Grindley Made in England Smoke Free Environment Color: Blue & White w/Gold Accent Type: Flow Blue Porcelain Pattern: Aldine, Registration Number: 325874 Measurements: Total Length w/Handles: 11 5/8” x Width 9” Height w/Cover on Including Handle: 7.5” Height of Tureen without Cover: 4.5” Base: 4.5” x 5.5” A lovely porcelain covered tureen by WH Grindley & Co. Delicate rows of small blue flowers, with a finishing touch of raised gold leaf garlands and swirls. Registered in 1898, the Aldine pattern uses the flow blue technique, seen on blue and white china patterns by adding lime to the kiln as the piece is being fired, hence giving it an intentional slight blur. Oval in shape, with decorative handles on each side, as well as on the lid where there is an opening for a ladle. The raised 8 point base gives this covered tureen a regal look. The stamps and hallmarks underneath the tureen are fairly worn but enough notable to see ALDINE at the top and (WH) GRINDLEY (& CO ENGLAND) at the bottom. Part of the Registration Number that shows is 325 (874 is worn off). Trade and Mark on each side with some of the letters worn off. A wonderful bridal gift, or for the avid collector! Great antique condition. Has not been used since in possession, but has been held and gently stored for many years. Some natural wear on the handles. Though the gold leaf is still in remarkable condition, and substantially intact, it was noted while taking photos and magnifying for this listing, that the previous owner may have touched up a few small spots. Overall, this tureen still a lovely presentation with no crazing, and no known cracks or chips. The inside looks good. Please see all photos.
