Description: A first edition set of Soncino Press's English translation of the Babylonian Talmud under the editorship of Isidore Epstein. The complete set was published as six separate sets from 1935 to 1948. Seder Nezikim (1935), Seder Nashim (1936), Seder Moed (1938), Seder Kodashim (1948), Seder Zeraim (1948), and Seder Tohoroth (1948). One volume in each of the sets Seder Nezikim and Seder Nashim contains a statement identifying the set as a first edition in which only 1,000 copies were printed. Each of the volumes in Seder Moed contain an identification as first edition on the inside flap of the dust cover, and one volume contains the statement identifying the set as a first edition in which only 1,000 copies were printed. Seder Kodashim, Seder Zeraim, and Seder Tohoroth contain both the identification on the inside flap and a statement behind the title page in each volume. (See pictures for samples.) This set is in good condition. There are some tears on a few of the dust jackets and some dirt or marks on the dust jackets. The books appear to be in very good condition. The pages are clean, the binding is good, and the covers appear to be in very good condition with only a very minor shelf-wear on a few volumes. There are too many books to give a thorough sample of pictures. The worst damage to the dust jackets are shown in the photo. A representative sample of pictures have been given. The works are bound in a red hardback binding with gold lettering. The top of the pages are gold gilt. See pictures.
