As immigrants migrated South in the 1800’s, the Craven family found the clay of North Georgia to be a source for making utilitarian pottery. The original focus was on functionality, any artistic appeal was a bonus to the Craven Pottery. Individual characteristics of each piece of pottery enabled each person to identify their person water or whiskey jug. This face jug has individual character like no other jug in the world. This unique piece of pottery was handmade and signed by Billy Joe Craven. It was glazed and fired to 2300°F. This face jug has plenty of personality and is a great example of folk art. He is a great size. It has a large impact without taking up a lot of shelf space.
