Our bolts are good looking Allen Socket Button Head stainless steel pieces. Torx head bolts tend to “strip out” easily because of their shallow sockets and use of wrong size or worn out bits. Socket Button Heads do not normally have as many problems. Black oxide coated common steel will deteriorate in a few years and then rust. Stainless steel will end rust concerns forever.PROTECTION WITH WASHERS: Many Derby Cover Bolts are installed with no washers as it was cheaper that way. However, tightening bolts down on to derby covers, tends to rough up mating surfaces. We feel that it is better to let washers take the abuse during tightening. Our stainless steel flat washers have small outside diameters that tuck neatly under the bolt heads. If bike tends to loosen bolts because of vibration, we have included a set of internal star lock washers to help solve this problem.BETTER STEEL: Brand new chrome plated or black oxide bolts may look great on day one, but it does not take long for their appearance to change.
