Description: Extremely rare museum quality Charles Lotton peacock feather vase made by Charles Lotton himself in his studio in Crete Illinois in 1997. This stunning example of Lotton’s best work was created after his formative years in the 1970’s & 1980’s which is when he learned to perfect skills. By the 1990’s he had perfected his graceful shapes, beautiful precision patterns, vivid colors & stunning unique iridescent surface treatments which are reminiscent of the early 1900's Louis Comfort Tiffany works & other iconic glass blowers of the Art Nouveau movement from 1890 through 1914 which ended at the outbreak of WW I. Charles's works from the 1990’s through the 2000’s command the highest prices by collectors because during these two decades he had perfected his art-form and was within his peak talent years. This particular heavily iridescent raised peacock feather vase is embellished with SIX individual peacock feathers. Each slightly raised peacock feather is hand formed & displays a unique combination of vivid metallic peacock colors including metallic gold, purple, pink green & violet. You can actually feel the raised feather veining & eyes when you gently run your hand over the surface, almost like a cameo effect. This museum-quality piece is signed & dated "Charles Lotton 1997" on the ground & polished flat base since the raised "cameo" style of the feathering make it impossible to sign on the side of the vase above the polished flat base, as is his custom. Because these peacock feather pieces were so difficult to make, Charles did not make many of this particular pattern relative to his other patterns, like his trademark multi-flora pattern (his most abundant pattern of all). He didn't make very many Louis Comfort Tiffany style pieces because of the complexity of the patterns & difficulty in getting them perfect. I’ve been collecting his works since the mid 1990’s, for 30 years, & I only collected these LCT style pieces since I found them to be the best expression of Charles's exceptional talents due to the level of difficulty & skill required to get the shapes, colors, patterns & iridescence perfect. Among the LCT style Art Nouveau pieces created by Charles at his Crete Illinois studio, the peacock feather pieces were always my favorite pattern to collect. He was only able to make very few of this pattern due to the substantial additional time & meticulous skill & effort required to make the peacock feather pieces. Additionally, his loss rates were very high on this particular pattern due to the extreme amount of molten manipulation & detailed working of the glass to get it perfect. This piece will be double boxed & very well padded to assure it arrives in the same perfect condition in which it left the Lotton studio in 1997. I have many more photos available so if you’d like see more, just let me know. I always offer the option of a full refund if you are not satisfied for any reason. So bid with confidence.
