Description: This is a porcelain mantle clock made by Crown Dresden between 1843 and 1878. The Porzellanmalerei Helena Wolfsohn operated in Dresden from 1843, under the direction of Helena Wolfsohn (1798-1869), whose father founded the firm as L Meyer & Söhne. The business continued after her death in the hands of her daughter Emilie. The firm won various prizes at international exhibitions, including 3rd prize in Melbourne in 1880. The original mark used by the factory was a D under a crown. From 1879 onwards the business also frequently copied the 'A.R.' (Augustus Rex) mark which had been registered by the KPM in Meissen (the Meissen Royal factory mark). The year the business started to use the 'A.R.' mark, KPM instantly appealed for court intervention and it took until 1883 before the studio was forced to stop using that mark. The D under a crown mark with the words 'original Germany' underneath was used from 1962 through to 1990.
