Description: Here is a beautiful Dedham Pottery vase hand thrown by Hugh Cornwall Robertson. It has an olive and deep green brown gloss glaze with blue highlights dripping over the heavy baluster form. It measures 8 1/4 inches tall and 5 7/8 inches in diameter at the widest. Marked with a hand incised mark and a conjoined HCR. It is in good condition with only a barely noticeable bruise with short line to the rim (6 o'clock in the 4th picture) and no chips, repairs, or firing flaws. Hugh Robertson was fascinated by Asian ceramics and glazes, in particular the Chinese oxblood red. Often called experimental, this work is really Hugh's true art pottery. and the famous crackle dinnerware was made to keep the firm afloat. He died in 1908. A good piece of Dedham art pottery.
