Description: Offering another antique gown from my personal collection, this is a fabulous mid-19th century silk plaid gown, both in its visual aspect as well as its condition. It is one-piece in its construction and has a tightly gathered cartridge-pleated waistband and a massive hem circumference to reflect the ever-expanding cage crinolines of that period in fashion history. During the Civil War years skirts reached their widest width. Constructed of a sumptuous silk, the gown is a pretty plaid in shades of blue, hues of tan and vanilla, gray, and Ikat stripes with alternating stripes having a dotted pattern. I have listed all the measurements in the specifics section, but the main measurements are: 32" bust with 24" waist. The bodice closes in front with inner hooks and eyes and has decorative coordinating royal blue silk tassels. A couple of these tassels are missing. The entire gown is fully-lined with brown polished cotton. The dress has dropped shoulders as was the prevailing style, with pagoda sleeves lavishly trimmed with three bands of brilliant fringed tassels. My mannequin has a little larger bust than the dress so that is the reason for the small open gap where the dress bodice fastens--the hooks and eyes are all present and I didn't want to stress the fabric so I left that area unhooked. I am including, to the next owner, an original pair of period net balloon sleeves that are also in excellent condition and look perfect showing out from the wide pagoda sleeves. The only thing to mention is a short vertical tear beside the placket where the bodice closes and is likely due to the same reason the missing tassels sre no longer present at that spot. It was like this when I purchased the dress. There is also a 1/4" spot of the cartridge-pleating that is loose and could take a couple of stitches. I do not sew so I have left it the way it is, and one cannot see it unless looking for it specifically. The gown is in excellent, preserved condition and museum-worthy. Please message me if you have any questions or would like additional photos, as I am always happy to help. I want to thank you for viewing my listing and I hope you will consider adding me to your favorite sellers list. I will continue to list historic costume, antique dolls, and other 18th and 19th century decorative art. Blessings, Michelle
