Bonnard (Active 19th Century), And Printed By Gilquin Fils, Paris, France, Zoom In Or Click On Pictures And Please Read Our Detailed Item Description Below, Please View Or Search Our Other Items Here, Combine Items To Save On Shipping This auction is for what we believe to be a circa 1920s–1940s French Parisian wooden & gesso jewelry box of interesting design. The cover or door is made using a hinged frame-like construction that holds a print under glass on the exterior and a mirror on the reverse. The print used is a Sidney Z. Lucas reproduction of a beautiful “La Mode Illustrée” fashion plate lithograph by Ukrainian-turned-Parisian fashion artist Adele-Anaïs Colin Toudouze (1822–1899). The print is marked LA MODE ILLUSTRÉE. GILQUIN FILS IMP PARIS. ANAÏS TOUDOUZE. BONNARD. BUREAUX DU JOURNAL 56 RUE JACOB PARIS. There is also a small circle bounding the initials SZL which is the mark used by Sidney Z. Lucas. The visible part of the print looks to measure roughly 9 1/2” x 7 5/8”. We are guessing that the entire print is just slighter larger than these measurements. The print appears to have aging, yellowing, and dirty and/or spotted areas. There are also pieces of small debris and detritus trapped between the glass and print. The glass and print shift slightly from side to side and up and down when the box is tilted in those directions. The jewelry box appears to be made of wood and finished with a gesso exterior. The gesso is missing in several areas including a fairly large missing piece on the corner of the frame. The jewelry box also has discoloration, scratches, nicks, dings, edge wear, aging, dirty and/or dusty areas, and some nails that have come somewhat pulled away from the box. We are guessing that the nails could easily be tapped back in place although we did not attempt to do this. The corners have some separation as well as a small crack on one of the separated corners. The top glass panel appears to be free of any cracks. The bottom of the jewelry box has green-colored felt attached to it that we believe may be original to the box. The felt is worn, aged, and missing in several places along the edges. The inside of the box is gold in color and has 2 large compartments. There is what appears to be a plastic sheet of some sort lining the bottom of the box. There looks like there is a gold-colored panel or covering beneath this plastic film. The jewelry box measures roughly 12 3/8” x 10 1/2” x 3” at its furthest points and weighs roughly 2 lbs 11 oz.
