Description: This book titled "Hacking Google® Maps and Google® Earth" by Martin C. Brown is a great resource for anyone interested in the subject area of Information Science and displaying geographical information using Google Maps or Google Earth. The term 'Hacking' is a bit misleading - presumably to make the subject sound more exciting - this is a book more for data "Mash ups". Published in 2006 by John Wiley & Sons LTD, it is obviously a tad out of date but still useful in getting to grips with the fundamentals of obtaining geographical information and displaying it in other media, there is detailed sections including HTML code to integrate the information with web pages. Despite years in the industry (I am old OK!) I often find it useful to understand the fundamentals before getting into more "advanced" systems (e.g. APIs, Power BI) and this book will help you get there. I have seen recently that younger people sometimes tend to skip learning the fundamentals and go straight for off the peg systems which in my experience does not help in the long run, e.g. when new systems are introduced they are not equipped to understand how to manipulate information over to the new system. When I did my MSc I used information in this book to enable me to extract from google, locations of all the schools on the isle of Wight and other data for a project. Without the book I would have had to resort to more time consuming, manual methods and the project would have been incomplete. The book helped me get all of the information in about 15 minutes total.
