Description: You can look up Herbert Philbrick. A businessman who infiltrated the Communist Party in the USA at the encouragement of the FBI. This was during the “Red Scare” in the US. He would then write a column for the New York Herald Tribune titled the “Red Underground”. The letter is written to Walter Bennett who was an upstate NY clergyman and prodigious letter writer and received numerous responses (I have other replies to his letters listed for sale as well). This is the only one where Mr. Bennett is ROUNDLY chastised. Really an incredibly interesting letter (for me at least) regarding the Red Scare, etc. I am not a signature expert and this has NOT been authenticated but having other similar reply letters, etc +, I have little doubt that this is authentic. I AM GOING TO BOX THIS!! I don't want to take a chance on an envelope. NOTE!!! CHECK THE SHIPPING COSTS!!! I oversize/overpack just about everything and will be doing so again here to avoid any damage during shipment. It’s worth the extra couple $. NOTE!!! Any easels, propping devices, rulers, etc shown in the photos are for displaying the item and are NOT included with the item.
