It was first serialized in the newspaper Le Soir in black and white in 1941, and was subsequently published in a color album in 1942. The Shooting Star is the book in which Hergé's most famous "Tooooot!!" picture appears (page 21). Hergé's notorious antisemitism shows in the description of "The greedy Mr. Bohlwinkel" whose facial features are a caricature.In later printings, the name and looks would be altered.
