Description: Estate Find Mid Century ModernHerman MillerMAA Lounge Chair We offer an unrestored Herman Miller MAA Lounge Chair designed in 1958 by George Nelson (1908-1986) with assistance from Charles Pollock (1930-2013) and only in production from 1958-1964.The MAA Lounge Chair was part of a collection of tables and chairs called the "Swaged Leg Group". George Nelson combined Charles Eames's design for shock-mounted connectors with flexible joins to make an ergonomic chair comfortable and able to flex with the sitter's movements.The chair features a white fiberglass molded seat/arm unit and a black fiberglass back panel. There are chrome-plated steel and aluminum components and rubber shock mounts.As seen in the photographs, the chair is in untouched original condition showing scuffing to the fiberglass finish and rust marks on metal. There are no chips, cracks or breaks to the fiberglass. Of the four shock mounts holding the back panel, one is cracked and the other three show age.Replacement shock mounts for the MAA chair are available from a German restoration company which has replicated the original rubber shock mounts.The chair measures 34" in height. The seat is 27 5/8" in width arm to arm and 18 1/2" in depth. The back panel measures 19 1/2" in width and 15" in height. From the underside of the seat, the leg height is 18 3/8". The span of the feet is 17" on center with 1 1/8" foot pads.We will provide assistance to buyer's choice of shippers. Provenance Harry (Hal) Jonas (1932-2020) served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War leaving the service with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Hal attended Lawrence Technological University while working with Minoru Yamasaki Associates of Troy, Michigan at the same time Minoru Yamasaki's most famous project, the World Trade Center in New York City, was under construction. He became a registered architect in 1970 and practiced in Michigan, Colorado and California until his retirement in 1999. In his later years, Hal became a noted artist and teacher who shared his knowledge with many students.
