Many if not most suppliers of HVAC equipment and parts will only sell to licensed HVAC contractors. Licensed HVAC Professionals typically must successfully complete a significant amount of training and hands on experience as an apprentice, and pass tests to prove their competence. While professionals can also make mistakes, it is MUCH more likely someone trying to fix their own equipment will have an issue. Unfortunately people trying to fix their own equipment often purchase the wrong part, or they misdiagnose the issue and buy a part that was not what they needed to fix their equipment, or they install it incorrectly.
