Description: - Own a an extremely rare piece of storied history from the heyday of Hong Kong, before it reverted back to China in 1997.- This exquisite set was manufactured specifically to be sold only at the famous JUMBO’S FLOATING RESTAURANT and couldn’t be bought anywhere else.- This set is like new, never been used and includes an outer sleeve, which reveals a red leather bound box containing 24K gold - 2 serving large spoons, 2 sets of chopsticks, and 2 decorative pieces for the chopsticks to rest upon. - The box set opens up to show varying photographs of JUMBOS Restaurant throughout the years with the year “1997” prominently displayed. - Approximately 20” L X 16” W. - This particular set is especially unique in that very few were made or exist, especially not in this unused and pristine condition.- In 1997, Hong Kong stopped being a British Colony, after 150 years of British rule. It was seen as the last significant colony in the British Empire.- on July 1, 1997, Hong Kong reverted back to China. - JUMBO’S FLOATING RESTAURANT was known as the largest of any floating restaurant in the world, accompanying up to 2,300 diners.- It was founded as a part of the “Jumbo Empire” in 1976 and thrived for 44 years.- It was prominently used in many film productions, including “The Man With the Golden Gun” (1974) and countless other films.- It’s sister restaurant, the Tai Pak Restaurant was used extensively in the filming of the great film classic, “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing” in 1955 staring William Holden and Jennifer Jones.- Throughout the history of these restaurants, anyone who was anyone visited and enjoyed them - from Queen Elizabeth II, Bruce Lee, Tom Cruise and beyond. - The restaurants were located in the famous Hong Kong Aberdeen Harbor, which was a floating village at one time housing 150,000 “boat people”, who lived and worked on their junk boats or sampans to fish and transport people to and from the harbor.- In 1997, when Hong Kong reverted back to China, the harbor was made to “clean up” and disperse its people and the fabled history of this area can unfortunately no longer be found as it was.- It is now a semi commercial district, with very little left of the charm and exoticism in years of yore. - JUMBO’S FLOATING RESTAURANT unfortunately had a very sad ending to its once former glory days of glitz and glamor. - After having to be closed in 2020 due to Covid restrictions, the family of owners weren’t able to regain its financial viability and had to declare bankruptcy in 2022.- The restaurant was sold to a company in Cambodia to be towed there. - In June 2022, while towing the restaurant out of Hong Kong harbor, part of the building listed and sank. - They soon resumed the towing of the remainder of the restaurant and shortly afterward, in rough waters in the South China Sea, Jumbos capsized and sank. - The ensuing result is that the once so famous JUMBO’S FLOATING RESTAURANT where everyone went to dine when in Hong Kong is no more than a dream remembered.- This beautiful and exquisite 1997 24K gold serving set commemorating the return from Britain to Hong Kong is a true piece of history which will never be seen again. - This is your chance to own this one of a kind historical and commemorative piece.
