Description: Description Condition: New Product size: approx. 18.5 x 16 x 9 cm Product weight: 2.4 kg Capacity: approx. 380 ml Material: Ceramic Iga-yaki is a type of pottery produced in the mountain villages around Iga City in Mie Prefecture, which is separated by a mountain from Shigaraki in Koga City, Shiga Prefecture. Iga-yaki was developed from the late 7th to the 8th century. Initially, seed pots were made, and by the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1600) they were well known as ceramics for the tea ceremony. Today, earthenware pots and heat-resistant ceramics are widely produced, taking advantage of the characteristics of the highly refractory clay. Iga pottery, like Shigaraki pottery, has a different taste from ordinary porcelain pottery, allowing the taste of the clay and glaze to be enjoyed in a variety of ways. The surface of the glaze has fine surface cracks, not cracks in the pottery itself. After use, tea stains and stains will enter the penetrated areas and the ceramic surface. Please enjoy the soft taste unique to ceramics (tsuchimono) and the scenery that changes with each use. Shigaraki and Iga ceramics "hechimon" are made by human hands, and each piece has its own unique style. You can discover the various characteristics of traditional Shigaraki and Iga ware in the variety of shapes. The name "hechimon" comes from a Shigaraki craftsman's word used to mean "windswept objects. Vessels with various shapes created by nature and with various expressions just like the individuality of each of us." The pottery is filled with the sincerity and playfulness of skilled craftsmen who value "heterogeneity". Heat-resistant pots made in the Marubashira district of Iga. In addition to gratin, it is also used for stewing tofu, yanagawa, and other dishes. After being heated and cooked in the kitchen, it is recommended to be served at the table as it is for entertaining. The base is peeled off to accentuate the texture of the material, and a thinly poured Irabo glaze is used to give it a chased look. The traditional heat-resistant clay of Iga is characterized by the intermittent appearance of fine cracks on the surface of the earthenware pot in the early stages of use. These fine cracks are formed when the earthenware is heated, and the earthenware particles hold each other tightly to resist expansion and contraction, thus increasing the strength of the pot, contrary to its appearance. Therefore, even if you can see some cracks, large or small, you can use the potter's wheel with peace of mind. Please enjoy the texture that changes each time you use it as an aging process unique to ceramics. The size, color difference, glaze, and other characteristics of each item may differ from those shown in the photos. Please enjoy it as the taste of ceramics.
