Blue-gray cloth covered boards with tan cloth covered spine. Gilt stamped illustrations on front panels, gilt lettering on spine. Upper external page edges are gilt. Many illustrations including frontispieces with tissue. Spines are lightly sunned. Small bumps and scuffs on upper- and lower-most front and and back panel edges. Edges at tails of spines have horizontal creasing, with edge on Vol. I close to fraying. Upper edges at heads of spine have minimal amount of crimping. Vol. I has small book seller's label on front paste down. Vol. I text block is cracked at front and back gutters. Vol. II text block is starting at front gutter. In spite of cracks, text block is snug. External side and lower page edges are age-toned. Internal text is clean.
