Description: The Forgotten Village MOTION PICTURE BOOK 136 PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE FILM OF THE SAME NAME Written and Script by John Steinbeck Published May1941. Documentary examining the conflicts between modernization and traditional culture of a Mexican village.Produced and Cinematography by Alexander HammidBurgess Meredith Narrated the film This First Edition book belonged to my father, whose owner's plate is on the back cover. The film/book centers on one family in one small village. "The story helps the reader get to know the family. The film crew moved into the village, made friends, talked, and listened to the Mexicans living there, discovering a clash between modern medicine and magic that was old when the Aztecs invaded the plateau with modern medicine. They had the villagers re-enact what happened to them. Their curandera was a real wise woman, one who practiced herbology and magic in the village. The most difficult problem of all (as written in the book) was the method of telling the story to an American audience."This book was one of my favorites as a child born in 1946. I'm sure anyone who reads it will find it educational and very well told from beginning to end. I won't give out the ending. Leaving it for you to enjoy!
