This stunning flatware box was a wedding gift for Christmas 1908 for Mr. and Mrs. Thornwell Fay. The box has a lock but is missing the key. The interior is lined with satin which was edged with braided rope trim that has come off. The satin is not torn but has some stains. The wood is scuffed and there is a missing piece of wood on the lower side, shown in the photos. The box is marked A.B Griswold & Co. LTD New Orleans, LA. This famous mercantile was established in 1817. The interior shelf lifts out and we photographed a pencil note. It measures 24-7/8" wide x 18-1/4" deep by 9-3/4" tall, and it weighs over 32 pounds.
