OVERALL CONDITION: VG+ Published by Joseph Halenza in Mayence, Germany circa 1860s. In gorgeous original fine cloth binding: beveled, intricately tooled, blind stamped and embossed boards; top cover richly adorned in quadruple gilt filet bordering and paneling and an elaborate gilded image of a woman holding a harp on top of a mountain; four slightly raised spine bands with gilded compartments and lettering. All edges gilt. Beautiful white silk moire endpapers. A sewn-in silk ribbon placeholder. A beautiful book in its original 160-year-old binding! The book is in VERY GOOD+ condition. Top cover and spine sun-darkened a shade or two. Gilding in fantastic shape. A few spots of soiling. Lightly rubbed spine tips, bumped corners and a chip of cloth missing from crown. Pages are clean with toning to the margins. No writing, a few spots of foxing/smudges. Exceptionally bright plates. Former German bookstore stamp on rear endpaper.
