Description: This is a finely rendered and Masterful Antique 19th c. Old West Taos New Mexico Native American Indian Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a seated man, likely Navajo, in a Southwestern village of traditional adobe homes and tall trees, which is likely the Taos pueblo. The seated figure looks down at the ground, and to his right are a bow and arrow leaning against a nearby wall. The artist is clearly a master of American Impressionism, and this is without a doubt one of the finest Southwest paintings I have ever had the privilege to own. This work is very old, and judging from the back of the canvas and frame, likely dates to the 1890's - early 1900's. Signed cryptically in the lower left corner: "I.BESmay" I could not make any sense of this signature, but perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? Approximately 19 3/4 x 22 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 15 x 18 inches. Very good condition for over 100 years of age, with some light craquelure and minor paint loss in the lower left corner (please see photos.) Additionally, there is some light scuffing and edge wear to the original period gilded frame. Acquired in Southern Texas, United States. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
