Description: Mount Eerie pts. 6 & 7 is an EP released by Mount Eerie. This release acts as an extension to 2003's Mount Eerie, the fourth studio album by Phil Elverum's previous band The Microphones. It was released on a 10" picture disc packaged in a 132-page hardcover artbook of photography taken by Elverum. MusicIn an interview with The Believer Elverum explained that the songs on Mount Eerie pts. 6 & 7 represent "the relationship between...the large mystery and the everyday" alongside being about "obliviousness v. clarity" and the "idea of “Mount Eerie” as a looming, invisible presence." Pitchfork Media rating (7.1/10) Upon release, the EP received a generally positive reception. Matthew Solarski of Pitchfork wrote that "His apparent new mantra, more mature if less satisfying: Clarity comes and goes, and all we can be certain of is uncertainty." The book was published in an edition of 2400 in July of 2007 by P.W. Elverum & Sun, ltd.. The photos were taken all on traditional film. Most of them are on expired 800 speed 35mm color print film with an antique half frame camera. (A Mercury Univex II, to be exact, which was apparently made from surplus 16mm movie camera parts during the depression. It was printed at Hemlock Printers in Burnaby, BC, Canada in May and June of 2007 and delivered back to Anacortes for record stuffing and dustjacketing. It is not a documentary book about all the exotic places I’ve been. It’s not even a narrative myth story. It’s an arrangement of colors and shapes that are intended to get at this idea of “Mount Eerie” I keep excavating."
