Description: This hot curl inspired miniature is made from reclaimed old growth redwood from the heart of the redwoods, Humboldt County, the home of large and cold big waves, The white stringers are pine. Note the base support which is a rare piece of redwood burl. Also note the book-matched body pieces. It is 41 1/2" long, 4 1/2" wide at the widest point, and approximately 1 1/8" thick at the thickest point. The hot curl shape and the slight V at the tail were a breakthrough from 1930s redwood planks that "slid ass" instead of staying in the curl, hence the hot curl name. Famous surfers John Kelly and Fran Heath of Hawaii are credited with its invention and the shape foreshadowed the big gun boards to follow.
