We had acquired a pair. Really Sharp Colorized Etching featuring 1920's Wall Street looking from Broad Street in the financial district. Created by famed artist & print maker Tanna Kasimir-Hoernes who along with her husband Luigi Kasimir gained fame for their innovative color etching techniques. They both had studied at the Vienna Academy of Art with noted etcher & scholar, Wilhelm Unger. They traveled throughout the US & Europe creating these richly detailed etchings of popular city locations, noted historic architectural works & some landscapes as well. Almost all of their works are bold & quite striking. Many of their works today are featured in museums & held in private collections (where we obtained this work & one other work by TK (already sold), called the "Sub Treasury", better known as "Federal Hall"). Luigi was credited with perfecting the use of a multi plate colorization process for etchings, allowing etchings to maintain their strength of detail while adding color. This had been very difficult before. Kind of a neat read if you like studying artists and art history. The few examples of this etching we could find that have been sold on the open market stated this was a limited edition print, but we are not 100% sure on that. It is pencil signed by TK Hoernes. It also has the number 49628 which is only 3 numbers off of the other print we obtained from same collector and it was numbered 25, so this is likely the same number (or close to it) of a limited edition, but again that is an educated guess. It was stamped "Printed in Austria" on the back. Most auction estimates on these works are from $800-$2,000 and we have seen them sold from $600-$1400 depending on condition. We are offering ours under the lower end, although our's is in very good shape and better than most we have seen. Really good find! This is in very nice condition, but not perfect of course. The ink is thick and has a bold look to it when out of frame. We saw no major detractors to print surface. The matting has some slight darkening from age & the frame has a few nicks around the edges, but is solid. The rest can be observed in the photo gallery & you can use zoom if needed. We gently removed the print & replaced in the frame just to check the overall condition & photograph for your consideration. We took pictures both inside & outside of the frame, front & back. It had been professionally framed & matted by the Lehman Brother's of Indianapolis (accomplished art framers & dealers in the US Midwest in 1900's) & we left it mostly as we acquired it, except we re-taped the matting mount & replaced the backing paper on frame which had moderate wear from age. The lower portion of the print sheet paper still shows a cost of $36.00 charged for the etching ($600-$775) in 2024 dollars depending on year of sale. We have seen the print noted as circa 1920's to 1930 and that is likely accurate based on vehicle styles in background, we just do not know the exact year. Perhaps a collector can share.
