Chances are you already know about the iconic Omega Speedmaster “Moonwatch” but the moonphase takes the spirit of exploration a step further, featuring detail enriched and photo-realistic moons that cycle through the month showing you the current phase of the moon as you see it in the sky. As our moon passes across the sky, the miniature version in the watch also travels around, displayed in an aperture on the dial. This watch, or any moonphase watch, is perhaps the most elemental in its graphical representation of the passage of time. It is a more whimsical and artistic complication, one that is fun to get lost in as it links us with our sky-watching ancestors and a lineage of watchmakers and artisans all at once. There are no noticeable markings on the tachymeter bezel and the crystal looks clean except for a light marking in the AR coating just under the 11 o’clock marker. It does not show in photos and I could only see it under studio lighting when the light hit just right at certain angles. The dial looks stunning although there is a small marking that appears to be on the dial between 1 and 2 o’clock. It is visible to the naked eye, although does not show in most of the photos, but I have included a macro photograph in the ad so you can see it clearly at 10x magnification. The casing is in overall fair condition with markings and hairlines throughout, the most significant being on the right side just above the top chrono pusher. The case back of the watch is in good shape with no visible markings on the exhibition crystal and only a few light markings near the lugs, most likely due to strap changes, but these are not visible when wearing the watch. The strap is in fair condition showing signs of use but still has life left in it. The buckle is in similar condition to the rest of the watch with markings in the polished section, but functions well. Overall the watch is in fair 2nd hand condition and very enjoyable to wear.
