Description: This is an excellent example of a totally original WWI German Model 1916 Helmet shell, with a wonderful Great War camouflage paint scheme. This was a very popular type of camouflage used on both sides of WWI, and this is a very attractive example, with the classic dark brown, dark yellow, green and red. Overall patination that has darkened the finish. The helmet shell still has both the dome headed chinstrap retaining rivets, which hold the interior pickelhaube style chin strap lugs in place. It also retains both of the extended ventilation side lugs, which are the correct stepped version for size 62 shells. This would ensure proper installation of a Stirnpanzer brow plate regardless of shell size. The interior of the helmet still retains the original leather liner, with all three panel complete with horsehair pads and tie string. It has the earlier pattern leather liner band, held in place by original split pins, including the correct thicker rear pin.The shell is stamped E.T. 62. indicating that it was manufactured by Eisenhüttenwerk AG of Thale, located in the Harz district in Saxony, Germany in size 62. This company made helmets in sizes 60-68 inclusive during the war. There are rolling mill markings in the interior dome that read B 7, indicating the steel was made at Stahlwerk Becker in Kiefeld. This wonderful camouflage helmet, offered in very nice collectible condition, makes an eye catching addition to any Great War collection.
