Each DVD is 51-minutes in length, so you’re bidding on a total of an hour and 42-minutes of vintage Packer and Cowboy NFL action (four games total – Packers vs Colts, Cowboys vs Redskins, Cowboys vs Giants and Packers vs Rams) Below is a detailed description of each of the four games - two games, one week, per disk. This first DVD in the two-disk set shows the 10-2 Packers vs the 8-4 Colts in Baltimore, and the 9-2-1 Cowboys at home in the Cotton Bowl against the 6-6 Washington Redskins. Saturday Dec. 10, Baltimore - Not even NFL Films has this game! It’s a rainy Saturday afternoon in Memorial Stadium as the Packers try to beat the Colts for the 5th straight time and clinch their second Western Conference Championship in a row. After scoring on a first quarter 42-yd TD pass Bart Starr to Elijah Pitts, Green Bay leads 7-0. In the second quarter Alvin Haymond fields Don Chandler’s missed FG attempt and brings the ball back 53 yards and into Packer territory. A Unitas to Tony Lorick screen pass nets 18 yards, and a 25-yard reception by Tom Matte brings the ball to the Green Bay two. Lorick then takes the ball over to tie the game, 7-7. Donny Anderson’s fumble on the Packer 21 gives the Colts a great chance to score again and a 26-yd FG by Lou Michaels puts the Colts ahead 10-7 by halftime. Both teams miss FG attempts in the third quarter, and the score is still 10-7 in the final period as backup QB Zeke Bratkowski starts the Packers moving. After receptions by Pitts and Marv Fleming and a nice run by Jim Taylor, the Packers have the ball 3rd and 6 on the Colt 22. Max McGee makes one of his few receptions of the season a big one, snaring the ball on the Colt 4-yd line! Pitts runs the ball in giving the Packers back the lead, 14-10! Unitas then mounts a final Colts drive to try to win the game. But on first and 10 at the Packer 16 with 1:16 left, all receivers are covered. When Unitas tries to run, he is hit hard by Willie Davis and Ray Nitschke and fumbles the ball which is recovered by Dave Robinson at the 11-yd line. A close, gritty game in cold, muddy weather has ended with Green Bay clinching the West! They’ll face the L.A. Rams in the regular season finale next week (See disk two). Sunday Dec. 11, Dallas - Next day, the Redskins invade Dallas to take on the Cowboys, who by beating or tying the ‘Skins, can clinch the Eastern Conference. Lots of scoring in this game, but not until late! The Cowboys score first on a 20-yd TD run by Don Perkins in the second quarter and Charlie Gogolak’s FG for Washington makes it 7-3. Danny Villanueva has a punt blocked in the end zone by Carl Kammerer and John Rager recovers it for a Washington TD, as the Redskins take the lead, 10-7. By the end of the first half, QB Don Meredith has been knocked out of the game by a smashing Sam Huff tackle and in the second half, coach Tom Landry calls the plays from the bench, alternating his backup quarterbacks Craig Morton and Jerry Rhome. An early third quarter Villanueva FG ties the game 10-10, and a Bob Hayes TD run later gives the Cowboys the lead 17-10. But before the third quarter is over, a Sonny Jurgensen TD pass to Bobby Mitchell ties the game at the end of three periods. In the final quarter Dan Reeves takes Rhome’s pitchout for 67 yards and a TD as Dallas moves ahead again 24-17. Washington quickly retaliates when Jerry Smith takes a Jurgensen pass for another Washington score, again tying the game. Following Pete Gent’s 47-yd pass reception from Jerry Rhome, Don Perkins scores on a short run, giving Dallas a 31-24 lead. But in less than 40 seconds, Jurgensen again ties the game with a 65-yd TD bomb to Charlie Taylor! Whew! - 31-31 with about three minutes to play! By then holding the Cowboys and getting the ball back with 2 minutes to left, the Redskins upset the Cowboys 34-31 on a Charlie Gogolak 29-yd FG with 4 seconds left! The Cowboys will still have the opportunity to clinch next week as they travel to Yankee Stadium to play the Giants in the regular season finale (see disk two in the two-volume set)! The second DVD in this two-disk set shows the 9-3-1 Cowboys vs the 1-11-1 Giants at Yankee Stadium and the 11-2 Packers vs the 8-5 Rams at the Coliseum, Los Angeles. Sunday Dec. 18, New York - Four Giants are out for the season with injuries and Don Meredith will not play for Dallas, as the Cowboys strive to beat last-place New York and earn the right to appear in the first NFL Championship Game of their 7-year history! Deep in their own territory in the first quarter, Giants QB Cary Wood tosses a pass which is deflected by George Andrie, who then catches it and steps into the end zone to give the Cowboys an early 7-point lead. Next series, Wood drives the Giants down the field as two catches by Joe Morrison, a run by Allen Jacobs and a pass reception by Bobby Crespino bring the ball to the Dallas five-yard line. But the Cowboys hold. On fourth down a Pete Gogolak FG attempt is blocked and the Giants, after threatening to score, come away with no points. With only seconds left before half-time, Danny Villanueva’s 37-yd FG attempt is blocked and the score at intermission is still 7-0 Cowboys. The Giants outplay Dallas in the third period, even though there is no scoring. They convert three third downs and have the ball on the Dallas 5 when the third period ends. On the second play to open the final period, Joe Morrison plunges the one yard needed for a New York TD, and the Giants have finally tied the score, 7-7! The Cowboys begin to bring more pressure on Wood at this point, and they start again offensively with Mel Renfro returning a New York punt 27 yards to the Giants 41. Then Craig Morton and Bob Hayes team up on the biggest play of the game – a 41-yard TD bomb, with puts the Cowboys up again by a touchdown with six minutes left to play! Soon, Danny Villanueva’s 10-yd FG adds to the Dallas victory margin. The Cowboys win, 17-7 and leave New York for Dallas and their date with destiny and the Green Bay Packers! Sunday Dec. 18, Los Angeles - Meanwhile on the west coast, the Packers have only pride on the line as they face the Los Angeles Rams who hope to beat Green Bay and qualify for a berth in the “Playoff Bowl” vs the Philadelphia Eagles. The Rams receive Chandler’s kickoff and score first on a 36-yd FG by Bruce Gossett. With the Rams driving, Bob Jeter intercepts Roman Gabriel’s pass on the Packer 25 and romps all the way to the end zone on a 75-yd interception return, giving Green Bay a 7-3 lead. Near the beginning of the second quarter, Gossett’s 30-yd FG brings L.A. closer, at 7-6. But Carroll Dale’s 74-yd pass reception from QB Zeke Bratkowski (subbing for Bart Starr today) puts the ball on the Rams 3-yd line after Irv Cross shoves him out of bounds. Chandler’s 10-FG soon adds to the Packer point total, 10-6. Gabriel retaliates with a 58-yd pass to Jack Snow who is pulled down at the Packer ten by Herb Adderley. Gossett’s third FG makes the score 10-9. Donny Anderson’s 3-yd TD run builds the Packer lead to 17-9 by half-time. The Packers have mounted a long drive by the end of a scoreless third quarter and early in the final period a 23-yd TD pass to Carroll Dale gives Green Bay a 24-9 lead. Chandler’s 27-yd FG ends the Packer scoring, but the Rams aren’t through just yet. With L.A. trailing 27-9, punter Jon Kilgore gambles by tossing a pass to Claude Crabb, who scampers 47 yards to the Packer 13 and sets up Gabriel’s TD run on the next play. With 50 seconds left the Rams again have the ball and Gabriel’s 50-yd pass is hauled in by Steve Heckard on the Green Bay three! A short TD pass, Gabriel to Marlin McKeever finishes the scoring, as Green Bay wins 27-23. As time runs out, Vince Lombardi and first-year head coach George Allen are shown walking off the field. Allen’s 8-6 Rams have had their best season since 1958 and will be heard from again in 1967! Lombardi must now prepare his club for – The NFL Championship in Dallas!
