Description: Late 1880s Footed Serving Trays with hand painted Cottage Scenes and patterned gilt rim. Exceptional and rare pair from the late Victorian revival of Wedgwood fine bone china and luxury tableware. Wedgwood Portland Vase mark to base - without stars or the word England - dates from 1878 - 1891. Another recorded example, a plate with the same border pattern and a different cottage scene, is marked X1989 indicating 1895. Made at the old Wedgwood Etruria site under Thomas Allen, one of the great ceramic artists of the 19th century. These pieces measure approximately 29cm x 24cm x 3.5cm - slight size and weight difference (544g and 617g). In excellent condition, no damage, the lightest wear to gilt edges, no signs of use or scratches. Likely only ever used for display.
