Description: This interesting lot consists of two pre-Civil War receipts from Richmond Virginia The first is a very nice 1842 receipt from the firm of Valentine, Breeden & Company located at the corner of 4th & H Streets on Shockoe Hill. This firm handled linens, clothing and other items for the for the more well to-do society in Richmond. It says is sold Irish and German linens, silks, Muslins, items for women's dresses, gentlemen's apparel, sheeting, damask, diapers, hosers and other items. The receipt is made out to Captain John Claybrooke (of Louisa County VA). It measures about 7.75" x 4.50". The other receipt is an 1855 document from the firm of P Horton Keach and they sold "Ladies' Dress Trimmings, Fringes, Gimps, Buttons, Brails, Hosiery, Gloves, Yarns, & e". Also they sold regalia and banners. This item shows some wear. It measures about 7.75 x 4.75". It is from the Claybrooke estate as well. These items will be sent folded in half (as they were previously) and shipped in a secure package with a cardboard(s) insert.
