Description: Here we have a Rare !! Antique SARGENT VBM No. 53 Cabinet Veneer Floor Scraper Hand Plane ! The No. 53 is a very hard plane to find. Following his brother's death, George Sargent took over the company and began using a new marketing slogan: "Very Best Made" and many of their tools were then labeled with the VBM mark from 1910-1918. So even though this plane was manufactured from 1913 - 1943, the VBM markings better define the actual manuf. date. It is in Very Good 'used tool' condition with minor wear to the finishes. It has wood sole plate that is very good condition. The sole is 3-1/8" x 3-3/4". It has a Very Good scraper blade (with 2 sharpened edges) marked with MADE IN SWEDEN and the faint maker name above that, however I can't read it. NO cracks, breaks or repairs.
