Description: Maker: The breathtaking beauty of this exquisite Dresden gold quatrefoil cup and saucer is all the more astonishing when its age is taken into account. It has a variation of the blue Augustus Rex mark of Germany's incomparable Helena Wolfsohn, widely recognized as one of the world's greatest porcelain firms. The mark was in use from 1879-1880. Design: Panels of finely hand painted multicolored flowers alternate with those of a harbor scene of ships and workers in a superb quatrefoil layout. Most patterns in this shape are in a classic Watteau "courting couple" design in various colors. No other examples of a gold version of this harbor pattern were found in an extensive online search. Size and weight: The cup is 3 1/4 inches long, 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall. The saucer is 5 1/2 inches long, 4 5/8 inches wide and 1 3/8 inches tall. The set weighs 7.3 ounces. Condition: Both pieces are in excellent condition with no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, discoloration, repairs, crazing or significant wear. There are 2 rough spots on the cup edge - they can be felt more than seen. There is an embedded dark spot in one of the saucer's floral panels that was created in the manufacturing process. It's visible in the photos. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
