Description: This is a WWII US NAVY Portable Mil Typewriter. This is a very rare typewriter because most have been destroyed in some way or another. It is a portable Remington Model 5 however the name Remington is not on it anywhere. "MODEL 5" is still partially visable on the bottom front piece of typewriter. The Model 5 from what I've read is a very quality well built machine which makes sense why our government used it . On the very front middle of the machine you can make out where US NAVY was etched into it I tried to show this in the pictures. There is not other writing on the machine other than. The serial number (B1225467) and I don't know what this is but if you look close underneath it on a small piece of black metal there is( DI ) and about two inches of space then the number (1). Also on the front of the case USN is written. I have looked hard and can not even find a picture of one of these on the internet, I'm sure there is I just could not find It. Sorry I am not trying to act like I just found a gold mine however this is a cool piece of our Military History that not many people possess or ever will so I have to treat it as such. I have not tried to restore it in anyway other than wiping off some dirt and dust for the pictures so this thing is in great shape considering it went through a war and 80 years. I'm sure because of the case, which is definitely warn but that preserved the machine so it's a good thing. It has its ribbon but the ribbon is damaged some. The machine seems to be in great shape considering as I said it went through a World War, is portable , and is 80+ years old. A bit of restoration and this thing could be like new again. I know nothing about type writers and do not claim to but from what I can tell this is a special machine and not something put on the market everyday so don't miss out on your opportunity to own a little piece of US History.
