Description: This rare1900s "Dixie Queen" litho picnic basket style tobacco tin measuring 4" x 5 " x 7 1/8" is in good condition with no rust, some dimple dents and some very minor age related paint scratches and chips. The hinge and handles are in excellent working order. There are two small pieces of tax stamp. This very attractive red and white tin was made by Tindeco Can Company, Baltimore, MD. It is fashioned to resemble a woven picnic basket. The tobacco was manufactured by the American Tobacco Company, Raleigh-Durham, NC. in Factory 1, District, VA. The American Tobacco Company purchased the Dixie Queen brand in 1896 from the A. H. Motley Company, Reidsville, NC. for $24,000.
