Description: Charles Beresford HOPKINS was one of the most famous of Royal Doulton's artist and known for his pastaral scenes. This plate is painted and signed by him using the initials C. B Hopkins. It depicts a young man walking behind three cattle perhaps heading toward a lake or stream for water. The subtle colors and misty wooded scene show the amazing skill of Hopkins. The central circle on the plate show the scene and is finished in a very high gloss. The remainder of the plate is white porcelain but the decoration around the white border is simply stunning. Thick gilt flowers and flourishes loop around the entire plate forming a fitting frame for the beautiful painting. The reverse of the plate is white with a thin gold rim. The purple lion atop a crown with the Royal Doulton England medallion below are clear. Other markings in gold are hand painted on the reverse and can be seen in the photos. The plate is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or crazing. The gold is bright and undamaged. It is a generous 10.5". This is a rare and sought after plate by an extraordinary artist and would be a showpiece in any Royal Doulton collection. NOTE: This rare plate has been in a private collection and has only recently been available for sale. If you are a Royal Doulton collector this is the chance to add one of the foremost Royal Doulton artist's to your collection.
