Unfortunately, I already have a primary and backup horn that I feel comfortable on, and the guilt of it sitting in the closet waiting to be played is too much! The few times that I’ve played it have shown it to be an instrument with a wide dynamic range, a beautiful tone, and solid intonation. Royal has included a number of high-tech advancements: The throat Bb, which is notoriously fuzzy, has an automatic vent of its own, similar to the design on many bass clarinets. This cleans up the note considerably, with no extra work required for it to sound just like the A. There’s also a fascinating adjustment you can make that I’ve seen on no other horn: An adjustment screw and pad that can control the color and tuning of the low G/long D, which again, is often squirrelly for tuning and projection. Really cool stuff! I’ve played it a couple of times just to try out, but it is in effect brand new, and has never left the house. An added perk is the adjustable barrel, which are hot right now— 64-68mm range of adjustment for when the flute is 15 cents flat, and the brass are 40 cents sharp. Gold posts, which really do soften up the sound, and a nice leather case a bit like the small BAM single cases in design. A great horn for a good price! I’m a Juilliard student and alum of the Aspen, Sarasota, and Tanglewood music festivals, and hoping this beautiful instrument can find a loving home. Q&A: Q: Does the instrument come with a warranty? A: Yes, it comes with the standard Royal Global warranty ( cracks, etc. Including the proof of authenticity card to verify. Q: What happens if it’s damaged during shipping? A: Inspect the package before you sign off at delivery. If there are any issues resulting from shipping, we have taken out an insurance policy to cover damage (and loss).
