This is guaranteed 100% ORIGINAL hat made for the Russian Armed Forces, not a foreign replica or civilian hat! Made in bluish gray Faux Fur (died wool pile) with quilted gray cotton liner. The liner shows factory stamp with a “06” date of manufacture, quality control stamps, and size 56 (cm) which corresponds with the US size 7 (SMALL). Please note: Size 56 is the ONLY SIZE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. We do not have this hat in larger sizes - please don’t ask. This hat is of traditional Russian design, similar to Soviet WW2 Ushankas and therefore great for Red Army reenactment. It will wear great in winter weather, works well even for Russian winters! In very cold weather or snowstorm the side flaps can be folded down and tied under the chin to protect lower face and ears, whereas the rear part when unfolded will provide superb cover for the lower neck. The difference with Soviet hats from the Cold War era is that its “fur” is of much nicer quality: it is both denser and much softer to touch than similar hats of the 60s-90s vintage. It is also of darker color, not as light as the hats from the 1960s-90s. In other respects, it is exactly as the earlier hats – very much unlike the Ushanka hats made for civilian market. The hat is NEW OLD STOCK in Excellent, UNISSUED condition. The faux fur is completely free of any mothing or mildew problems; the liner is immaculately clean. If you are buying one to wear at events and not just to add to your collection: some have found that with determined stretching (perhaps over a block of wood or using an actual hat stretching device - such gizmos do exist) plus a lot of daily wear these surplus ushankas may expand to a somewhat larger size.
